Here at Alqueva,
opportunities are fresh

New crops

The implementation of 120,000 hectares of irrigated land in Alqueva creates
the conditions to undertake a change in crop systems, including
the introduction of new crops. New projects are currently being developed
in Alqueva with a wide range of crops: olive, fruit trees, vegetables, plants
for industrial use, medicinal plants, irrigated cereal farming, livestock, protein
crops, oilseed crops and spices.
EDIA has actively supported these projects, contributing to the creation
of conditions for their success. The case of the poppy production
and processing project by a UK investor group, implemented in the region, is a primary example of EDIA’s work in this area.
